Manuscript Topics

Mechanical modeling of biological materials is a complex task, despite the remarkable advances of numerical methods in the current century. In the biomechanical field, material parameters and mechanical behaviors are not always available or sufficiently detailed to obtain feasible models. During the last decades, computational studies using numerical methods, especially based on finite element method, have been successful for biomechanical system modeling, presenting important contributions to the understanding of systems behaviors. Experimental data used for calibration of the models, finding mechanical parameters and comparative studies developed with the use of numerical modeling are highly relevant.

In this sense, the current special issue will be devoted to numerical modeling of biomechanical systems and their complex component behaviors. Among biological components, it is possible to highlight those whose hyperelastic, poroelastic or viscoelastic behavior should be considered for a reliable characterization of materials. All numerical methods used to model solid mechanics problems involving biomechanical systems are welcome. Fluid-solid interaction problems of biomechanical systems and multiscale models are also welcome. Biomechanical modeling based on experimental data used for calibration is highly encouraged, as well as modeling based on medical images.
