  • Another year of activity has reached its conclusion, and it is time to review the accomplishments of the AIMS Agriculture and Food during 2023 and to lay out our Journal's plans, hopes, and commitments for 2024. Different global challenges engaged the community of agriculture and food professionals and researchers during 2023. Among these were agriculture and food security, agriculture and food safety, food quality and functionality, food crimes, supply chain, nutrition and health, as well as the impact of agriculture and food on the environment. New knowledge and understanding as well as the applicable information and technologies that have resulted from the hard and dedicated work of the published authors from all over the world are reflected in the array of research papers and reviewed that have been published in our journal during 2023. I would like to thank the authors who submitted manuscripts to AIMS Agriculture and Food, the dedicated Editorial Board, and the Managing Team of the journal for their hard work and efforts during 2023. The combined efforts of authors and our teams has made 2023 yet another successful year for Aims Agriculture and Food. Since 2019, the number of submitted manuscripts has continued to increase in a steady and significant manner. In 2023,431 manuscripts were submitted and presented a 22% increase from 2022. After carefully and professionally reviewing these submissions, 58 of them have been published. The published articles included 45 research papers and 11 reviews. In previous Annual Editorials I expressed our commitment to accepting and publishing high quality manuscripts that meet the scientific and technical criteria and merits of our journal. In 2023 the acceptance rate of our journal was 15% and reflected the latter commitment. Our dedicated reviewers and Managing Team invest significant time and efforts in working with authors on enhancing and improving their submitted manuscripts. However, only those manuscripts that meet the journal's criteria can be published. This commitment to quality and improvement will continue in 2024. I truly believe that adhering to our uncompromised commitment to quality will continue to enhance the quality and relevance of AIMS Agriculture and Food. In 2024 we will continue to improve the efficiency of our review process and we aim at reducing the time elapses from submission to decision. Our impact matrices continue to improve. The latest Citescore in Scopus (Elsevier) is 3.4, the latest Impact Factor in ESCI-Web of Science is 1.8 and our efforts to increase the Journal's impact metrices will continue in 2024. We will continue to offer Special Issues that are dedicated to addressing specific challenges, advancements, and questions. I hope that these Special Issues will provide highly competitive research team with a platform to publish their cutting edge, high-quality work. The global population continues to face significant challenges that are related to agriculture and food and progress in addressing these issues is slow, and in some cases significantly slower than needed. Addressing these challenges requires developing new scientific knowledge and understanding as well as applicable approaches and platforms for implementing this knowledge. Meeting current challenges calls for an integrated and multidisciplinary research effort. AIMS Agriculture and Food has been designed and developed to offer a unique publishing platform that spans throughout the continuum that starts with the production of raw materials, through processing into high-quality nutritious products, and ends with consumption of such products and its impacts on health and well-being. I would like to invite researchers from both developing and developed parts of the world to utilize the unique platform that is offered by our journal as a stage for discussing the challenges, and report on accomplishments, advancements, and approaches to successfully meet them. On behalf of the Editorial Board and the Managing Team, I would like to wish you a productive and successful 2024.
