Manuscript Topics

Environmental protection is one of the most critical challenges for the humankind. The ever increasing number of emerging contaminants (ECs) resulting from industrial and/or human-made activities represents a serious menace to the ecological and environmental equilibrium. Industrial dyes, endocrine disrupters, pesticides, phenols, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, and other xenobiotics are among the top priority environmental pollutants/contaminants. Therefore, in recent years, much focus has been shifted to engineer cues with bio-sensing and bio-catalytic potentialities, both at the micro- and nano level, with applied perspectives for targeted applications in different bio- and non-bio sectors of the modern world. The increasing environmental pollution with particular reference to ECs, toxic elements, and other hazardous agents is a serious concern, worldwide. Considering this global issue, there is an urgent need to design and develop strategic measuring techniques with higher efficacy and precision to detect and/or remove a broader spectrum of ECs.

This special issue will glance state of the art on recent trends and advances that aims to green the 21st-century environmental sciences with particular reference to tackle ECs of high concern. Breakthrough research and review papers dealing with the removal and/or sensing of different contaminants types using different strategic measures are welcome in this special issue. Spanning across all aspects encompassing the fields of enzyme-based bio-catalysis, biomaterials with bio-sorbent potentialities, (bio)-sensor-based strategies and so on are of supreme interests. The articles should be designed spanning across all important aspects encompassing the thematic aspects of this special issue. Both types of articles, i.e., research and reviews are welcome in this issue.
