AIMS Animal Science (AAS) is a journal advancing the understanding, innovation, and application of animal science in a rapidly evolving world. As the global population continues to grow and the relationship between animals and humans evolves rapidly, the demand for sustainable and ethical animal production systems has never been more urgent. This journal aims to serve as a platform for cutting-edge research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the dissemination of knowledge that will shape the future of animal science.
The journal covers research on a wide range of animal species. While traditional farm animals, such as cattle, swine, sheep, goats, and poultry, have long been the cornerstone of animal science research, this journal seeks to broaden the scope by placing attention on companion animals and non-traditional farm animals. Companion animals, such as dogs and cats, play an increasingly significant role in human society, not only as beloved companions but also as contributors to mental health, therapy, and even ecological balance. Non-traditional farm animals, such as camels and pigeons, are primary sources of milk or meat production in specific environments and for specialized uses. By considering these often-overlooked species, we aim to address critical gaps in research and enhance the knowledge of their breeding, feeding, and behavior, as well as their coexistence with humans. Research in the field of animal science encompasses genetics, breeding, reproduction, feed nutrition, behavior, health, epidemic disease prevention, and livestock management, potentially playing a critical role in addressing some of the most pressing challenges nowadays, including food security, climate change, and biodiversity conservation. From improving livestock productivity to enhancing animal welfare and mitigating the environmental impact of animal agriculture, the scope of animal science is expanding.
In this journal, we will present the latest advancements in the field of animal sciences, with a particular focus on the following topics:
Precision breeding: Application of omics technologies and digital technologies to explore the genetic architecture of complex traits and assist precision breeding, achieving rapid and sustainable genetic improvement of productivity, disease resistance, and adaptability.
Sustainable nutrition: Innovations in feed formulation, alternatives to antibiotics, alternative protein sources, and precision nutrition to optimize animal health and reduce environmental footprints.
Animal welfare and behavior: Research that enhances our understanding of animal cognition, emotions, and well-being, ensuring that animals are treated ethically and humanely and are physically and mentally healthy.
Climate resilience: Strategies to help livestock and wildlife adapt to changing climates while minimizing the ecological impact of animal production systems.
