This special issue aims to shed light on the urgent need to rehabilitate existing buildings and, at the same time, explore their intricate relationship with the urban spaces in which they are located. As cities continue to expand and evolve, the challenges posed by deteriorating buildings in contrast to rapidly growing urban areas become more pressing. This special issue aims to investigate the critical role of rehabilitation in revitalizing our cities, increasing sustainability, making them better prepared to avoid the risks that climate change can provoke and with a focus on creating more livable environments for future generations. Through a collection of impactful articles and expert perspectives, we seek to stimulate meaningful discussions and encourage innovative approaches to framing this urgent and demanding task that lies ahead for our common future. The topics to be covered by the special issue include, but are not restricted to, the following:
• Revitalizing cities
• Urban spaces
• Rehabilitate existing buildings
• Urban agglomerates
