Manuscript Topics
With the advent of industry 4.0, the spread of sensing and monitoring technologies has fostered the development of new information-driven supply chain models. While IoT and sensor networks have become pervasive in the last decade, supply chain management and decision-making processes still appear outdated and somewhat inadequate to fully exploit the potential of digital information and knowledge. One of the big challenges for the new millennium is thus to integrate digital information into supply chain management and decision-making processes at the strategic, tactical, and operational levels in order to fully exploit digital information’s potential for strengthening the value chain. Recent examples in such regard can be traced in the procurement decisions based on quasi-real-time forecasts experienced in the healthcare supply chain during the covid-19 pandemic or in the development of precision agriculture in globalized agro-industrial supply chains. The special issue aims at collecting research contributions focused on such topics, proposing new supply chain frameworks and business models capable of exploiting the value of digital information for more efficient, effective, and sustainable supply chains.
