Manuscript Topics

Cancer is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. While the development of new therapies has brought down the fatality rate of many cancers, the patient-to-patient variability in cancer phenotypes makes it difficult to apply the new therapies to cure cancer in all cases. Mathematical models are increasingly being used to help assess the effect of new treatment modalities and can play a role in helping us understand how different cancer phenotypes are affected by different treatments. While still not fully realized, the goal of mathematical modeling is to be able to personalize the models for individual patients in order to determine the optimal treatment for each patient.

In this special issue, we include recent developments in mathematical modeling of tumor growth at a variety of different scales, from intracellular to organ-level, and using a variety of modeling techniques. Thus, in this special issue we solicit prospective authors to submit original papers mainly dealing with, but not limited to, the following topics:

• Deterministic, stochastic, or agent-based models of tumor growth.
• Modeling of tumor growth under different treatment modalities including optimization of treatment.
• Personalization of models of tumor growth.
• Intracellular or multiscale models examining biological mechanisms leading to diminished or enhanced tumor growth.
• Mathematical models examining environmental factors affecting tumor growth.
