Manuscript Topics

Mathematical Epidemiology, considered as the discipline devoted to the study and analysis of mathematical models to simulate the spread of biological agents (viruses, bacteria, etc.), has expanded its objectives in the last two decades due to the appearance of Internet and the massive use of connected devices and communication networks. New situations and new types of agents (malicious code, fake news, opinions, fanatical behavior, etc.) have become the goal of analysis.

Also, new techniques have appeared related to, for example, Artificial Intelligence, Complex Network Analysis and the Theory of Simplicial Complexes that can be very effective not only for the improvement of existing mathematical and computational models but also for designing novel proposals.

This special issue is devoted to gather high-quality research papers and reviews focused on the design, analysis, and development of novel mathematical and computational models whose purpose is to simulate the propagation of different entities: biological agents, malicious code (malware), fake news, fanatic ideas, rumors, etc. Specifically, this Special Issue will cover different perspectives on these and related potential topics:

• Design and analysis of new epidemiological models based on continuous mathematical tools.
• Design and analysis of new individual-based epidemiological models.
• Analysis of the use of Artificial Intelligence techniques for designing epidemiological models.
• Analysis of the use of Complex Network Analysis in Mathematical Epidemiology.
• Development of computational models based on the theory of simplicial complexes.
• Study of novel methodologies to control epidemics.
• Formulation and analysis of epidemiological threshold coefficients.
