Manuscript Topics

Counter-acting the effects of climate change on a global scale and responding to the recent health emergencies has nowadays become a major imperative, and one of the biggest challenges for the research community worldwide. In such context, driven by the recent technological advances towards digitization, the technology of cyber-physical systems (CPS) represents a substantial opportunity to introduce major progress in the field of biosciences, including human and environmental health, medicine and food systems. CPS integrate the functionality of sensing and analyzing their surrounding environment with the capability of making decisions and interacting among themselves and with the human operators, in a new symbiotic perspective. The development of such features involves an unprecedented level of complexity and computational effort, and relies upon the effectiveness of the methodologies implemented to analyze a big amount of data, and to develop their self-learning capabilities through advanced Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning techniques.

This special issue seeks to contribute to the basic knowledge on cyber-physical systems in the field of Biosciences, including bio-sensing techniques, person-centered wellbeing and healthcare, personalized nutrition, smart water management, etc.
