Manuscript Topics

Mathematical models along with computational analysis validated by experiments will improve our ability to uncover underlying principles and design appropriate experiments in the studies of many biological systems. This special issue aims to address recent advances in mathematical modeling and computational methods using systems biology approach to study cell biology in broad, ranging from cell signaling pathways, cell polarization, to tumor growth and etc. Such problems arise from cell and developmental biology consisting of multiple interacting components that exhibit complicated temporal and spatial dynamics. Furthermore, feedback, nonlinearities and multiple time and length scales often make such systems extremely difficult to describe, model or predict. The contributed papers will discuss the new challenges of modeling such complex systems, introduce new computational techniques to simulate them and, where possible, present novel analytical techniques to extract meaningful information.
