Control Theory is an interdisciplinary research area which has implications for many applications. In Mathematical Control Theory we aim at influencing the behaviour of a dynamical system either finite or infinite dimensional, deterministic or stochastic, in order to optimize a desired criterion or to stabilize the system near a desired state or trajectory. Many mathematical techniques can be used to facilitate/allow a possible subsequent engineering design and construction of devices that solve the problem in practical real world applications.
This Special Issue aims at collecting original and quality contributions on more recent developments of the mathematical control theory for nonlinear systems. In particular we welcome submissions on:
• The determination of control strategies or feedbacks for dynamical systems in order to optimize the performance or to stabilize the system to an equilibrium.
• Geometric control methods for controllability and problems in sub-Riemannian geometries.
• The role and the analysis of Hamilton-Jacobi partial differential equations in modelling real world phenomena.
• The qualitative theory of the solutions of Hamilton-Jacobi partial differential equations for finite or infinite dimensional systems.
Keywords:
• Optimal control problems for nonlinear differential equations
• Controllability and asymptotic controllability of nonlinear systems
• Hamilton-Jacobi equations in control and differential games
• Necessary and sufficient optimality conditions
• Viscosity solutions to Hamilton-Jacobi equations
• Dynamic programming
• Mean field control and games
