Manuscript Topics

In order to ensure compliance with European targets and a transition to decarbonization, the use of renewables must be increased.

For 2030, the current target is 30% of final consumption. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to accelerate the development of: energy communities and small-scale distributed systems, utility-scale plants (through simplification of bureaucracy), biomethane development, and innovative and offshore solutions. Solar energy, with a reputation for being inexhaustible and environmentally benign, is one of the most important parts of this developement.

This special issue aims at shedding light on emerging pathways for solar energy utilisation. Specifically, open issues can be discussed regarding photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) collectors, building integrated photovoltaic/thermal (BIPV/T) systems, concentrating solar power plants, solar thermal energy, solar heating, solar cooling, solar energy storage, solar powered transportation, solar building technologies, off-grid solar system application, solar hybrid renewable energy system, solar energy economics, and other novel applications of solar energy.

The identified challenges include, but are not limited to the following: specific studies on novel system, modelling and simulation, sizing and optimization, operation and management, and performance evaluation, developing new materials, enhanced performance, accelerated system installation and improved manufacturing processes, combining solar energy with other clean energy production and storage systems, and integrating solar energy utilisation with local energy utilisation patterns.

The subjects of the submissions include (but are not limited to):
• Solar photovoltaic
• Concentrating solar power
• Solar powered transportation
• Solar heating
• Solar cooling
• Photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) collectors
• Building integrated photovoltaic/thermal (BIPV/T) systems
• Off-grid solar system application
• Solar energy storage
• Solar economics
• Solar hybrid renewable energy system
