Manuscript Topics
Since the proof of the conformal invariance of Maxwell's equations by Bateman and Cunningham in 1907, conformal invariance has played an important role in physics. Zero rest mass fields are conformally invariant and the standard model of particle physics is, before spontaneous symmetry breaking, conformally invariant. Because of the rich structure of 2-D conformal transformations (i.e. bijective complex analytic functions) 2D conformally invariant physical systems have in recent years been investigated extensively. The string worldsheets of strings in string theory are conformally invariant. This special issue is concerned with all forms of conformal invariance in quantum field theory but, especially, with conformal invariance in nD for n>2.
