Manuscript Topics

Parkinson’s disease is a chronic and progressive deteriorating disorder of the nervous system. It is the second most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer's disease. The basic reason behind this condition is the selective neuronal loss that is associated with accumulation and aggregation of a protein in certain parts of the brain. Normal nerve cells present in the brain produce a neuro transmitter called dopamine, that is responsible for signaling movement, co-ordination and emotions but in the case of disease, individual dopamine production decelerates, thus the individual becomes unable to control movements normally. There is no cure for Parkinson's disease but only a variety of symptom relief treatments.Recently, new transformative approaches to defining, studying and treating Parkinson's disease have been presented. One of them is to approach Parkinson's disease not as a single entity, but to provide targeting therapies to distinct 'nodes or clusters' of patients based on specific symptoms or molecular features of their disease. Advances in the understanding of Parkinson disease pathogenesis may enhance the development of pathogenesis-targeted and disease-modifying strategies.

The aim of this special issue is to provide a comprehensive and critical overview of the contemporary clinical, neuropathological and genetic understanding of PD and to examine the recent advances in the definitionof the complexity of this devastating disease. Research and Review articles which describe the current state of the art relating to Parkinson’s Disease are encouraged.

Potential topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following:
• Pathophysiology of Parkinson’s disease
• Disease mechanisms and models
• Disease diagnostics
• Risk Factors of Parkinson’s disease
• Advanced therapies in Parkinson’s Disease
• Pharmacology
• Computational methods in Parkinson’s Disease
• Diagnosis and Therapy Support Systems
• Network and Disease modelling
• Neuroimaging
