Smart materials have emerged as promising solutions for enhancing civil structures' performance, resilience, and sustainability. This special issue explores the latest advancements, applications, and challenges of smart materials in civil engineering. Topics covered in this issue include, but are not limited to, self-healing materials, structural health monitoring, adaptive and responsive structures, sensing and actuation technologies, energy harvesting and sustainable design, durability and performance enhancement, case studies and practical applications, and challenges and future directions.
This special issue welcomes original research articles, review papers, and perspectives that contribute to advancing the understanding and application of smart materials. We invite researchers, scientists, engineers, and practitioners from academia, industry, and government laboratories to submit their latest findings and insights to this special issue.
