Manuscript Topics
Construction and building materials have been used since the beginning of mankind. Materials science has allowed the development of modern life, from simple pavements, through complex structures, to engineering mega-projects. Construction and building materials are present in all aspects of our lives. Both human creativity and needs have allowed its evolution and continuous improvement. We no longer only use timber, asphalt, concrete, metals and alloys, masonry, plaster, etc., on the contrary, polymer and resin composites, additions of carbon, metals or polymers, additives of all kinds and uses or even bio-materials, waste materials and recycled materials, are commonly used in the construction industry.
All this new technology makes it possible to reach and create new knowledge about durability, sustainability, maintaining and repairing, control and monitoring in real time, all types of infrastructures and buildings. Likewise, relevant aspects of the UN SDGs 2030 Agenda like the LCA are here to stay. And all this, technology together with social and environmental awareness, must be linked to the new requirements of the increasing modernization of lifestyles and rapid urbanization.
Much remains to be done with respect to the aforementioned matters. The governmental demands of local, national and international organizations are increasing. This special issue includes all the advances and novelties related to construction and building materials, which may imply an improvement in processes, cost, safety, sustainability, monitoring, maintenance or durability, among many other aspects, in the construction and building world.
