Manuscript Topics

Although the best-known application of radioactive materials is energy production in nuclear power plants, there are other applications such as medical, industrial and research, which are carried out in other facilities, and which bring significant benefits to humanity. However, all these activities produce a large amount of radioactive waste, the suitable management of which is fundamental to the sustainability of every possible application that generates these wastes. Radioactive waste, whatever its level of radioactivity, must be treated and conditioned for further handling, transport, storage and final disposal in a safe way; with the main objective of permanent protection for humans and the environment. This special issue aims to review current trends aimed at ensuring the sustainable application of radioactive materials throughout their management chain, from minimization and segregation at the point of origin, to possible decontamination and/or volume reduction treatments until final disposal. The special issue welcomes papers on the following topics:

• Low/medium-activity radioactive waste management
• High-activity waste management
• Reprocessing and transmutation of nuclear fuel

• Dismantling and environmental restoration
