Manuscript Topics

Built environment-related health problems cost the National Health Service £1.4 billion in the United Kingdom every year. The costs can be even higher in some high-density, aging countries cities around the world. With inadequate knowledge and thus consideration of the adverse health effects brought by built environment, occupants are often put at various health risks without knowing, ranging from physical health risks, psychosocial risks, to cognition health risks.

While countries/cities are rapidly developing, their demographic structure, needs of occupants, and built environment are also changing. It is time to review and investigate the intertwining relationship between built environment and human health in the contemporary world. This special issue thus aims to present new research results, and new proven practice for reducing health risks of occupants through design, construction and management of built environment. While the special issue considers articles considerably advancing health and building environmental science, preference is given to empirical and/or experimental research articles presenting innovations.
