Manuscript Topics

In most of the countries, solar photovoltaic systems have touched grid parity. The key challenging issues on increasing further penetration of solar photovoltaic systems in the electrical power network is to have intelligent integration with energy storage. Higher capacity solar photovoltaic power plants are connected to the high voltage network, and lower capacity PV units are connected in the medium and low voltage network. There are many technical challenges for integrating the solar PV plants at higher voltage levels as well as lower voltage levels.

It necessitates many technical developments, for example in power conditioning devices for solar PV system intelligent integration, role of solar PV systems in the micro-grid and off-grid developments, role of energy storage for making solar PV power plants as dispatchable power generator, power quality issues due to integration of solar PV systems and energy storage, modernization of distributed networks, to fulfil the necessity for demand flexibility and controllable dispatching of the electrical power from the distributed generators.

In the distributed network, solar PV systems can be installed on building envelopes for making ‘building integrated photovoltaic systems (BIPV)’, which can provide electrical power locally and make the buildings as ‘zero energy buildings (ZEBs)’. In future, ZEBs are going to play a significant role in the upcoming smart grid development due to their contribution on the on-site electrical generation through solar PV systems, energy storage, demand side management etc. The techno-economic analysis of BIPV system will be useful to the utility for developing new business models as well as demand side management strategies as well as decentralized energy storage design and operation.

High quality papers are welcome in this special issue, which examine or reflect the scenarios of distinct types of solar photovoltaic system engineering, progressive / innovative technologies of solar photovoltaic system engineering, and which can deliberate more than one of these methodologies: demonstrating experimental analysis with modelling, optimization of solar photovoltaic power plants, different types of solar photovoltaic cells and their modelling with suitable authentications of the results. This special issue covers original research and review studies related to the above topics, particularly including but not limited to the following fields:

• Solar Photovoltaic System Engineering
• Techno-Economic Analysis of Solar Photovoltaic System
• Power Conditioning Devices for Solar Photovoltaic System
• Grid Integration of Solar Photovoltaic Systems
• Power (Active and Reactive) Quality Analysis of Solar Photovoltaic System Grid Integration
• Off-Grid System for Rural Electrification based on Solar Photovoltaic System
• Solar Photovoltaic Water Pumping System
• Micro-Grid Architecture for Increasing Penetration of Solar Photovoltaic System
• Building Integrated Solar Photovoltaic System
• Recycling of Solar Photovoltaic Systems
