Manuscript Topics

The depletion of fossil fuels and required reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and increase of distributed generation systems are seen as important factors to accelerate and support the growth of photovoltaic (PV) systems. On one hand, the employment of PV systems allows using solar energy, which is free, clean and abundant in several countries. On the other side, solar energy presents an intermittent and stochastic nature with an alternated energy generation, which requires thermoelectric plants capable to modify the power supplied to comply with the instantaneous energy balance on the electricity grid. In addition, the reduced efficiency and lifespan of PV systems are the object of numerous researches to improve the penetration in the market of this technology. Nevertheless, the PV system has undergone noticeable development and has experienced the largest growth of all renewable energy sources in recent years making it accessible to a wider audience owing to a reduction in the costs. The energy performance of a PV system strongly depends on the temperature of the PV cells and absorbed solar radiation. In these conditions, an important issue is represented by the correct identification of the best PV solar field for a specific locality and application taking into account the load trend, local constraints and objectives. Researchers worldwide are invited to address the problem of the optimal PV system design with a more general perspective and by proposing new methods and indicators. For this purpose, the studies are expected to employ electrical, mechanical, economic, environmental, policy or customer criteria or a combination of this latter for a multi-objective analysis of a PV system.
