The self-assembly of various biomolecules including DNA, protein, peptide, biopolymers, enzymes, and virus have attracted great interests in the fields of nanotechnology, materials science, biophysics, biomedicine, tissue engineering, and bioanalysis. To explore the potentials of self-assembled biomolecular nanostructures and nanomaterials in these fields, it is necessary for us to understand the self-assembly methodology and corresponding kinetics or dynamics in the molecular aggregation process. For instance, different strategies/methods by adjusting both internal and external experimental parameters could be used to mediate the self-assembly process of biomolecules, which can also be monitored by morphological and spectroscopy techniques. In addition, to extend the applications of self-assembled biomolecular nanostructures, functional nanoscale building blocks can be doped onto the bio-precursors through biomimetic and bioinspired process, and their nucleation and growth kinetics/dynamics are also crucial for finding appropriate biological applications.

In this special issue, we would like to invite authors to submit original research and review articles on the self-assembly of biomolecules, especially the topics focused on the self-assembly methods, biomolecular structure, aggregation kinetics/dynamics, and structure-related biomedical applications. Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. All manuscripts will be peer-reviewed before their acceptance for publication. Accepted articles will be published in AIMS Biophysics open access free of charge.
