Mathematical modeling and numerical simulation is an exciting research area both from the theory of dynamical systems and applied mathematics and continues to be a vibrant, exciting, and fruitful endeavor. Application areas are diverse and multidisciplinary. Usually, after the modeling effort, a non-linear dynamical system is obtained. Many times, after studying the model, some control or action is performed to drive the system to an operational state. This situation is ubiquitous for engineering and biology. Or everything in between. Thus many mathematical approaches to ecosystem dynamics, sustainable development, bioeconomics which require some optimization step or viable state appear. Also, energy applications as electricity and distribution markets and new conversion strategies lead to non-linear dynamical systems that get the engineering attention.

This special issue will devote to applied non-linear dynamical systems. The contribution work should be much more significant for current worldwide applications such as ecosystems, energy, water resources, biological systems, and many other relevant applied topics. We hope to obtain a special issue which will enhance cross-fertilization of ideas from different application areas, and increased communication between the mathematicians who develop dynamical systems techniques and the applied scientists who use them.
