Topical Section: Foodborne Pathogens and Disease
Foodborne pathogens, including pathogenic bacteria, viruses or parasites, pose a serious health risk worldwide, causing major economic losses. A significant increase in the occurrence of foodborne illnesses has been observed.It is worth emphasizing, that food products are even more recognized as important carrier for the transfer of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and antimicrobial resistance genes.
In this topic, we aim to present recent advances in research concerning foodborne pathogens.
Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
Detection and identification of foodborne pathogens
Molecular and cellular mechanisms of infection
Virulence factors and their regulation
Biofilm production and the outcome of foodborne infections;
Antimicrobial resistance, including novel mechanism
The role of microbiota in the disease process
