Invitation to submit review or original research articles to this special issue of AIMS Environmental Science:
Theme: Urban Greening for Low Carbon Cities
This special issue calls for papers that address any type of vegetative cover for cities in any part of the world. The overarching ambition here is to consider a soft-engineering approach to achieving reduced atmospheric pollution in the built environment in order to contribute to improved air quality, with reduced emissions of CO2 and other anthropogenic pollutants. This is examined within the context of associated topics, including anthropogenic climatic warming and the urban heat island effect as well as urban sprawl. Since cities throughout the world continue to expand, particularly in the developing world, the problem of urban sprawl is real and needs consideration as it impacts the atmosphere as well as terrestrial habitats and global biodiversity. Relevant (interdisciplinary) contributions include original research articles on green roofs and façades as well as urban agriculture and other innovative greening solutions. Also welcome are contributions that address new developments in achieving low carbon urbanism beyond urban greening, including theoretical and applied (original research) articles as well as review papers.
