Manuscript Topics
Cells are the most fundamental building blocks in our day to day life and it always play a significant role in coordinating with each other to perform systematic functions in living creatures. However cell to cell or cell to the environment interaction with their behavior and their intracellular physical, biological and chemical effects are still unknown. To understand better physiological interactions, average measurement for millions of cells together cannot provide the detail information. For example, the biological function such as genome, epigenome and transcriptome at bulk population is informative, however it is not enough to understand the cell heterogeneity characteristics in phenotypic behavior assays and molecular dynamics. Moreover the bulk population is unable to provide the information of differentiation behaviour of stem cells or metastasis process of tumour initiation cells. Thus single cells analysis (SCA) has come into frontier research since from last decade. For example, single cell sequencing (SCS) is able to empirically infer the driver mutations and map the sequential mutation events during cancer development. The integration of genomics and transcriptomics in single cancer cells can provide valuable information on the functional consequences of mutations and copy number variations in these cells. Thus, without doubt, SCA is an efficient and valuable approach to understand fundamental biology in embryonic development, dissection of tumor heterogeneity, a detailed cell lineage tree in higher organisms and disease etc.
This special issue will invite the latest research articles and reviews dealing with single cell manipulation, injection, separation, lysis and dynamics of single cell. The role of SCA in system biology, proteomics, genomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics and fluxomics. The application of SCA for biocatalysis, metabolic, bioprocess engineering and the future challenge for SCA with their advantages and limitations are also welcome to be included in the manuscripts.
